GenieMiles live traffic

Our first-party traffic panel records page paths, referral hostnames and receipt times. It uses a randomly generated browser identifier in local storage which expires after 24 hours. We do not store IP addresses, account details, query strings or form contents in this traffic dataset. Raw events are normally deleted after approximately 48 hours. Hosting security logs are separate.

This tracker respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. If local storage is unavailable, it does not track. You can also disable it here; this control does not disable other analytics providers.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

We collect information you choose to provide, including your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter; your name, email address, profile picture and Google account identifier when you sign in with Google; and your username, profile details, posts, comments, votes, reports, appeals and other community activity.

If you submit a Genie Travel story, we may also collect your email address, travel details, written content and uploaded images. If you send a question through Ask GenieMiles, we collect your email address and the travel details, points balances and question you provide. If you contact us, we collect the information contained in your message.

Information collected automatically

We and our service providers may collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information, pages requested, timestamps, cookie identifiers, security signals and diagnostic information. We use some of this information to operate the site, maintain sessions, prevent abuse and investigate errors.

2. How we use information

We use information to provide and improve the site; create and manage accounts; publish and moderate community and travel contributions; send newsletters you request; review and answer Ask GenieMiles submissions; respond to enquiries; keep the service secure; prevent spam, fraud and abuse; enforce our community rules; and meet legal obligations.

3. Cookies and sign in

GENIE MILES uses essential cookies for security and to keep signed-in members authenticated. These cookies are necessary for account features to work. When you choose Google sign in, Google processes information under its own privacy terms and shares the account details shown during sign in with us. You can sign out at any time.

4. Services we use

We share information with service providers only where needed to run GENIE MILES. These include Cloudflare for hosting, data storage, uploaded images and bot protection; Google for optional account sign in and Google Analytics; Ahrefs for website analytics; and Resend for newsletter subscriptions and email delivery. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect people or rights, to investigate misuse, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the service.

We do not sell your personal information.

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics, Ahrefs Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand visits, popular pages, traffic sources, device types and broad geographic patterns, and to improve the site. The site loads these analytics scripts when you visit. Google Analytics may use cookies and browser identifiers. The data processed varies by provider and may include page URLs, referrers and technical information about your browser or connection.

You can manage cookies in your browser and use browser tracking protections. Google also provides a Google Analytics opt-out add-on; this does not disable Ahrefs or Cloudflare analytics. 5. Public contributions

Your username, posts, comments, travel stories, images and other contributions intended for publication may be visible to anyone. Ask GenieMiles questions selected for a guide or newsletter are published without your email address. Please do not include sensitive personal information in public content. We may retain moderation records and copies needed to protect the community even after public content is removed.

6. Retention and security

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security and business records, resolve disputes and comply with law. Retention periods vary by the type and purpose of the information.

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee complete security, so please protect your account and contact us if you suspect unauthorised access.

7. International processing

Our service providers may process information outside the country where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.

8. Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any newsletter. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain uses.

To make a privacy request, email hello@geniemiles.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

9. Children’s privacy

GENIE MILES is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age.

10. Third-party links

GENIE MILES links to airlines, loyalty programmes, booking services and other websites we do not control. Their own privacy policies and terms apply when you use them.

11. Travel information and disclaimer

GENIE MILES is an independent travel information service and is not affiliated with the airlines, loyalty programmes, card issuers or other companies mentioned unless expressly stated.

Award availability, fares, taxes, fees, transfer ratios and programme rules can change at any time. Our information may be delayed, incomplete or inaccurate and does not constitute financial, legal or tax advice. Confirm all material details with the relevant provider before transferring points, purchasing travel or making a booking. Point transfers may be irreversible, and GENIE MILES cannot guarantee that any particular flight, fare or award will remain available.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as GENIE MILES or applicable laws change. We will post the revised version here and update the effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
